AGATHA RAISIN & THE HAUNTED HOUSE
Exclusive World Premiere on Acorn TV in U.S. & Canada on Monday, October 28, 2019
Emmy-Nominated Actress Ashley Jensen Returns as Acclaimed Amateur Sleuth in Halloween Special
Acorn TV’s Latest Installment of Humorous Series of Adaptations Based on M.C. Beaton’s Bestselling Mystery Novels
No ghosts or paranormal spirits are a match for amateur sleuth Agatha Raisin’s resourceful instincts, street-smart savvy or her uproarious antics in an upcoming Halloween-themed special, to premiere as part of the Acorn TV Original series of feature-length movies based on M.C. Beaton’s bestselling lighthearted mystery novels. AGATHA RAISIN & THE HAUNTED HOUSE is a 90-minute spectacle of frolicsome frights and whodunnit intrigue, all injected with the detective’s saucy humor and sass — to spook a screen near you for an exclusive World Premiere on Acorn TV in U.S. and Canada on Monday, October 28, 2019. Emmy®- and SAG-nominated actress Ashley Jensen (Catastrophe, Extras, Ugly Betty) portrays the titular character, an ultra-fashionable London PR whiz turned amateur detective, whobecomes entangled in mischief, mayhem, and murder when she opts for early retirement in a small village in the Cotswolds. Drawn into the town’s murders, Agatha attempts to solve the crimes – often in rather unorthodox ways. Called a “glorious streaming service… an essential must-have” (The Hollywood Reporter), AMC Networks’Acorn TV is North America’s most popular streamer focused on British and international television.
In AGATHA RAISIN & THE HAUNTED HOUSE, Agatha Raisin is on the verge of a new era: reconciled with boyfriend James Lacey (Jamie Glover, Waterloo Road) and launching her own detective agency. When the new company fails to attract clients, James suggests they investigate the haunting of Ivy Hall, a mystery that has baffled locals, historians and ambitious treasure hunters for centuries, as the perfect opportunity to drum up business. When Agatha learns that the owner, Olivia Witherspoon (Richenda Carey, Monarch of the Glen, Jeeves and Wooster), has been left terrified by the hauntings and the police refuse to assist, Agatha steps in to try to help the elderly woman learn what secrets lie hidden there. Agatha and her team of detectives learn that Olivia is universally despised by the locals for her abrasive and meddling nature, and the plot thickens when Olivia’s body is found the next day. With the entire village seemingly having a personal connection and motive for wanting Olivia gone, it’s clear that solving these mysteries will be anything but simple. No one was expecting this first case to be quite so spooky!
Returning for Haunted House are Agatha’s former assistant, Roy (Mathew Horne, Gavin and Stacey, Drunk History UK); her friend, Sarah (Lucy Liemann, Rev); eager Detective Constable Bill Wong (Matt McCooey, Banana Skins); and the charming Sir Charles Fraith (Jason Merrells, Emmerdale, Waterloo Road). Guest stars are Joe Sims (Broadchurch), Clare Holman (Inspector Lewis), and Mark Aiken (24.) Joining the series is Agatha’s new assistant, Toni (Jodie Tyack, Noughts & Crosses, Unforgotten.)
